solchen Bildermarkt in Shanghai geben.

50 MOGANSHAN ROAD
This complex of old Warehouses has become the main art district of Shanghai. It started with a few galleries and artists’ studios and now it is reminiscent of New York’s SOHO in past days. Much of the art is rather uninteresting, but there are some gems to be found. We recommend Art Scene Warehouse and Shangart. Watch out for disreputable dealers, even if they seem to be nice people.

ART SCENE WAREHOUSE
Huge art space with a good reputation. Art Scene opened in Shanghai in 2002. We like this gallery because the art is high quality and the selection is varied and interesting. Some big name Chinese artists and many exciting young emerging artists. Good for collectors and enthusiasts. Check out their emerging Chinese artists competition. For Chinese contemporary art, it's good to get work while the artists are young and not yet famous.

SHANGART GALLERY
Shangart was the earliest gallery for contemporary art in Shanghai, so it is famous. Most of the artists on display are the same artists who have been showing very similar art in Shangart gallery for many years. Very expensive.

50 Moganshan Road

SHANGHAI GALLERY OF ART
In 3 on the Bund mall complex, the Shanghai Gallery of Art was designed with a sleek warehouse feel. This gallery publicity states that it focuses on "brand name artists". Prices may cause vertigo! Can close for setting up shows, so better check before going. Recently some mediocre exhibitions.

3rd Floor, Three on the Bund, 3 Zhongshan Dongyi Road by Guandong Road

ART SCENE CHINA
Art gallery in a quaint Shanghai French concession villa. Central location. Good artwork, suitable for the home, in an intimate environment. Friendly and helpful staff. Art exhibitions change every 2 weeks. Nice website, too:

SHANGHAI ART MUSEUM
The Shanghai Art Museum often features high-quality international art exhibitions as well as good exhibitions by Chinese artists. Shanghai Art Museum has a good in-house collection of contemporary Chinese art. Home of the Shanghai Biennale. Definitely worth a visit, depending on the show. In a nice old clock tower building.

325 Nanjing West Road, by Renmin (People's) Square. Close to the JW Mariott.

SHANGHAI MUSEUM
Almost an infinite number of treasures from China’s history. Amazing jade exhibit. Incredible museum. Diverse and rich collection.

201 Renmin Dadao

DOLAND MUSEUM
Doland Museum is Shanghai's first art museum to focus on contemporary art. Far away from the Shanghai city centre, but Doland Museum has some far out shows featuring avant-garde foreign and Chinese artists.

27 Duolun Road, by Sichuan North Road

Tel: +86 (21) 6587 2530

SHANGHAI ZENDAI MUSEUM OF MODERN ART
The Zendai MoMA Shanghai is focused on new media, and often holds exhibitions of non-Chinese artists. The location of Zendai is out-of-the-way for people not in Pudong. But quite a big venue, and some interesting shows at the Zendai Museum.

Building 28, 199 Fang Dian Road, Zendai Thumb Plaza, Pudong
