NGO in China: The Mosuo Minority

by Mr. John Lombard*

Time: Thursday, 20th of april at 19h30

Place: The Bed (Tapas & Bar)*, 17, Zhangwang Hutong, off Jiu Gulou

Dajie, Xicheng District

西城区旧鼓楼大街张旺胡同17 号

The Mosuo are one of China's least-known minorities, yet also one
of the most unique and fascinating. Their culture has aspects of matriarchal and matrilineal systems, they practice Tibetan Buddhism, and perhaps are best known for the fact that they don't practice marriage (women instead choose and change partners as they please). They live high in the Himalayan Mountains, on the border of Yunnan and Sichuan provinces, close to the border with Tibet.

For further information, see: http://www.mosuoproject.org

* The Bed is located in a Hutong in Jiugulou Dajie, about 200 meters from the Gulou subway station. After exiting the Gulou subway station, walk in the south direction and you’ll find the Changwang Hutong on the left side of the road. The Bed is located 30 meters inwards from the main street and can be recognized by the white lantern hanging in front of the door. In case you don't find the Bed, please call Jan (13520175942), Jeremie (13717732101) or the Bed Tapas itself (8400-1554).
